Dear Blog

Last week I went to DC, attended a conference, saw people from my grad student days I haven’t talked to in ages, hung out with knitters, bought some yarn, books, and shoes, walked a lot, knitted some, and had lovely hosting by Elspeth, her fiance, and kitty, and in general had a welcome escape from the crazy that my April has become. So even though I still have another couple weeks of crazy ahead of me, it does a body and brain good to experience a different place for a short while. Two thumbs up.

Tomorrow, I’ll show you the yarn. Today, have some photos!

  1. Mmmmm…. cupcakes…

  2. Great photos! That close-up of the cupcake is driving me crazy, but that isn’t a very long trip.

  3. Gorgeous photos. I hate war as well.

  4. Had to hop over to your Flickr account to see where some of the photos were taken. How is it that I did not know there was an FDR Memorial in Washington?!? *feels like an ignorant American*

Beautiful photos — they make me want to visit DC. Then again, I could get sucked into the Library of Congress and the Smithsonian Institution for like, ever, and not ever see anything else. *grin* Glad to hear you had a good trip.

  5. wonderful trip photos!!

  6. Great photos, thanks.

  7. Beautiful! Wow, I want a cupcake now.

Fala! I’m a fan of the FDR memorial in DC — and FDR in general.

  10. Jumping in to join the FDR memorial fan club! Possibly my favorite spot in DC, even if it is kind of hard to get to on public transportation.

PS. I think Fala likes you.

Wasn’t the Library of Congress awesome? It’s my favorite.

I have to tell you I wore my Rendezvous, knit with Twisted at Sock Camp. I got lots of compliments on it, and I made sure I had your name and the name of the pattern on the tip of my tongue. (I’m horrible with names!) Even Yarn Harlot thought it was wonderful!

Yay for you and yay for me!!!

I love your statue photos. I am fascinated by where statues cast from metal are touched by human hands. Those shiny bits tell a story.

Mmmm…please tell me those are Buzz cupcakes? (On Slaters Lane in Old Town Alexandria). Best cupcakes in that area!

  14. Actually, the cupcakes are from Hello Cupcake! Clearly I’ll have to come back to try all the other cupcake shops. ;)

  15. I am dying to visit DC. Your photos are great! Love the shot of Julia Child’s diploma from Le Cordon Bleu. I am reading an entertaining book (true story) right now by Kathleen Flinn called “The Sharper Your Knife, the Less You Cry: Love, Laughter and Tears at the World’s Most Famous Cooking School,” which is, of course, the Cordon Bleu in Paris.
