Resolutions Ahoy

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Yep, I am indeed going to be attempting Wendy’s Knit From Stash 2007 challenge. I know I don’t have the same unwieldy stashes that many of my betters have, but I do still have a stash nonetheless. It is big enough to keep me in knitted projects for many months at the very least, so I would be doing myself a favour to remind myself to knit from it more often.

She posted her guidelines and encourage people to modify them to their own needs, so in the interest of Full Disclosure, I shall reveal here and now what I will call My Rules:

1. The Knit-From-Your-Stash will last for the duration of the calendar year 2007. (I have no current knitting/spinning festivals earmarked for attendance at which to end the Stash-a-thon, unlike Wendy.)

2. I will not buy yarn during that period, with the following exceptions. New yarn may be purchased if:

a) It is sock yarn.
Do you know, I think I may just strike this one. It’s a bold move, to be sure, since I know most knitters don’t ‘count’ sock yarn as actual stash or yarn-diet restriction, but I’ve got enough sock yarn to be getting on with for the moment. I’ll let myself buy sock yarn once I’ve knitted at least another half dozen pairs of socks. Heh. We’ll see how that works. ;)

b) If I am making a gift which cannot be accommodated with yarn from the stash.

c) If I am working on a design which cannot be accommodated with yarn from the stash.

d) If I am working on a project that is running out of yarn and needs more to be completed.

3. I get one “get out of jail free” card and can cheat once. (Just as Wendy suggests for herself – I feel this is totally fair ;) )

4. I am allowed to receive yarn as gifts.

Heh. We’ll see how this goes. :)

I wish you all a lovely New Year’s Eve – who’d have thought the 00s were going to fly by this quickly? May your knitting take you to new and fabulous places in 2007. Mine sure has – it’s brought me here, after all!

Fleece on Earth and Good Wool To All

(Unless you prefer cotton.)

Yuk yuk yuk. I kill me.

And don’t forget to sing every knitter’s favourite Christmas tune, “While Shepherds Washed Their Socks By Night.” (I should probably stop now before lightning strikes me ;) )

(Post-Ivy-photoshoot funnin’ with me and the twin sister.)

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays :)

Proof that I do still knit things

Hey look, two Finished Objects! Just in time for the holiday season (for me, me, me! Yes there’s some gift knitting, too, don’t worry.)

(Striped Hat and Scarf – Pattern and wool from Philosopher’s Wool. I did the hat in stockinette stitch instead of garter stitch.)

I may just be sabotoging myself now by even suggesting such a thing as a yarn diet, but I’m very intrigued by Wendy’s Knit-from-Stash 2007 project. While I’m sure my stash is NOwhere near the size of knitters more experienced and/or more obsessive than me, it’s gotten bigger in the last year and has plenty of projects’ worth of yarn to keep me busy for the next several months. I may just have to sign myself up. (The one exception is that we are still allowed to buy sock yarn. In the words of the immortal Yarn Harlot – it’s like methodone, right? Something to just take the edge off.) ;)

Also, give it up for Twig, who just finished an awesome Gansey sweater for her hubby, just in time for the holidays. That’s love, baby.

I don’t imagine I’ll be posting a WHOLE lot over the next week or two over the holidays, as busy-ness and preparattions (well, and a bit of laziness) collide, so allow me to wish all of you out there a very, very happy holiday season and all the best for 2007. It’s a privilege to be among so many fantastic knitters out here on the Interwebs.

*tap tap* This thing on?

So, I went away for the weekend and then caught a nice sniffly cold, so that’s where I’ve been for the last week. And in my balloon-headed state it’s hard to work up the drive to knit, but at least I did manage to finish the Kool Aid socks a couple of days ago:

(Pay no attention to the ungrafted toes and the un-woven ends)

Also, this is the progress I have made on that Ribbi Cardi I wanted to have done for a Christmas present. Um…

(I don’t think this is getting done in the next 10 days.)

Also, I was out of town during the new Knitty release, so now I REALLY feel like I was out of the loop. I’ll have to take a 2nd look at the issue but sadly I don’t think there was anything that really jumped out at me screaming KNIT ME KNIT ME KNIT ME. Hm. Or, that could just be because I have plenty of other knitting to keep me busy already.

That’s my latest yarn acquisition – my first skeins of Cherry Tree Hill handpainted sock yarn, one in ‘jewels’ and one in ‘blueberry hill’. they’re gorgeous. The book is my copy of ‘A Christmas Carol’, which is up on the reading list for December at Knit The Classics. I have a couple of ideas of small things I could knit to go along with the book, but it’s a matter of whether I’ll have time to do the actual execution. Hm.

I hope y’all are well. Stay non-sniffly and cuddle your yarn for me!

I am knitter hear me roar

Just ignore my bleary-morning-just-got-up-an-hour-ago expression in this photo and move on to the SWEATER! :D

(Colour Your Own Fair Isle Pullover, yarn and pattern by Philosopher’s Wool: special raspberry (base), light blue heather, periwinkle, jade, navy, dark maroon, light purple heather, dark purple heather)

I’m wearing this today in honour of the first daytime temperatures at freezing. I think December has arrived ;) I’ve been a bit MIA this past week, but have still been managing to get a bit of knitting done. The first Kool-Aid sock of pair #2 is finished, and the second is on the way…

(Basic socks – Kool Aid is awesome)

I love Kool Aid. This weekend my friend K and I dyed some sock yarn with the Knit Picks jacquard dyes. I did some solids with the tweedy Bare superwash:

The colours are brilliant, but MAN is there ever still a vinegary smell hanging around the yarn…I might have to give it another rinse and shampoo before being able to knit it up. Hmm. AT least Kool Aid gives you a nice fruity smell!

And with that, back to Monday I go. May your knitting not be far away!
