An emerging plan

Since I apparently don’t have enough to do, and since it’s now a whole 3.5 weeks away from Rhinebeck (HAH that snuck up quickly), I thought it’d be a good time to cast on for a Rhinebeck sweater. I like having something new to wear at Rhinebeck, and I just bought this lovely dark teal green Manos Maxima (a soft single-spun worsted, much like Malabrigo worsted) at the Kitchener-Waterloo Knitter’s Fair and wanted to cast on for something before it sat for too long and became a forgotten part of the stash.

It’s going to be a cardigan, and with a few soft and squishy cables to go with the soft and squishy yarn, but other than that, I don’t have the entire plan nailed down yet. I’m going “off the cuff,” as it were. (Yuk yuk yuk, I kill me.)

Sept21-Cuff

Not sure yet if it’ll have a regular collar or a shawl collar (ooo, shawl collar…), pockets or no pockets (ooo, pockets…) but I DO know what I want the sleeves to do, so I’ll start there. If it all works out nicely, I’ll write it up. And goodness knows it’s finally starting to be sweater weather out there! Which is very exciting. The nice bonus with this is that at 4.5 sts/inch it’s going to work up relatively quickly, so I’ll have a cozy finished knit before too long.

Happy knitting today! May your Wednesday be over quickly and have your preferred refreshment waiting for you at the end of it.

  1. Now there’s a blessing to remember. May your day have yoarur preferred refreshment waiting for you at the end of it. Thanks.

Love the blue yarn + the seat of the pants sweater plan! Wish I could do that and end up with something wearable!!!

  2. I like your colorway. Can’t wait to see it done!

  3. It is sweater weather- and my sweater is mostly done. I just have to do button bands, collars, and seams- and then I realized that I have 2 papers, a midterm, 1 visit from my parents, and 1 visit home within the next week and a half. I guess that’s sorta like the stress of knitting a sweater in 3 weeks so it will be ready for Rhinebeck!
Plus, your yarn is gorgeous. So I’m sure it’ll knit up quickly!

  4. I love the colors in that yarn. Your sweater will be lovely!

  5. I’ve been knitting my Rhinebeck sweater (first sweater ever AND first Rhinebeck ever) for months! Your post made me realize I need to get my butt in gear if I actually want to wear it to NY. One and a half sleeves and the collar to go – I think I will make it.

  6. No no, I need my Wednesday to last me longer, too many things not done yet!

But never mind, that is going to be a really nice sleeve. With a great sweater attached to it, I hope 😉 Good luck!

  7. Ha – I’m having my preferred refreshment now, and I have to go teach a class in ten minutes! 😀

In all fairness, the preferred refreshment is non-alcoholic. I’m not the drunk lecturer on campus.

  8. Can’t wait for knitting and a frosty beverage! What a lovely thought!

  9. Well, if that sleeve is any indication of how the rest of your sweater is going to turn out, I can hardly wait to see your next post about it! Yes to shawl collar… yes to pockets!

  10. Your post reminded me that I have/had plans to knit a Rhinebeck sweater this year. I guess I should cast on sometime soon huh? Btw, I’m a big fan of shawl collars.

  11. I’m also working on a Rhinebeck project! I’m trying to finish a shawl. I’ll be rooting for you, but probably too shy to come up to you in person at Rhinebeck! 🙂

  12. “Preferred refreshment”! I love it. I’m having a mid-week beer and I’m not ashamed.
One day I’ll make it to Rhinebeck. One day.
I’m looking forward to seeing what comes of the sweater design!

  13. Oh, that yarn is just gorgeous and I do love cables.
I vote for shawl collar! AND pockets.
Please take lots of pics for the blog, can’t wait to see how this knits up.

Is the color named Ultramarine? I just love it… checked online … just checking because I might buy some. It is just gorgeous.

  15. Genia – that’s a good question! All I know is the colour label says M7164. Ultramarine sounds like an appropriate name, though!

  16. what a gorgeous blue, and that yarn looks SO cuddly soft.

  17. Love the new sleeve! I rarely comment (except for free giveaways, of course) because while I have mastered blog reading while knitting, I have not mastered typing comments while knitting, but I wanted to take a minute to tell you how much I enjoy your blog. …And I can’t wait to see what the sleeve turns out to be.

  18. The yarn color is great and it looks just snuggly. I will stay tuned to see what your sleeve becomes.

  19. That is just lovely Glenna! I look forward to the day when I look at my stash and say “oh, I think I shall knit a sweater” and “oh I think I’ll knit one that is x, y and z” and just sit down, doodle a bit on paper and WHEEEEEE – cast on!!!! (oh – and of course I’ll swatch first!) I don’t know when that day will come, but I’m looking forward to experiencing it. (Seems like it’ll probably be a Wednesday though 🙂 )

  20. gorgeous color, looking forward to seeing the finished work!

  21. Cozy, cozy fall.

  22. I thought I recognised Manos Maxima. I have just cast on a pair of mittens with it, and I couldn’t believe how absolutely soft and squishy it is to work with, I don’t want to cast off. This jumper looks sooo lovely, I love cables 🙂
